Familiarizing yourself with kid-friendly organic snacks for school and establishing a routine during the school year can help you and your children to feel less stressed.
Look at your daily routine. What feels rushed or causes chaos in your house?
Many families find themselves frantically throwing a lunch and snack into the lunchbox last minute. You can transform chaotic lunchbox packing into a nurturing stress free experience by making it part of your daily family routine.
Lunchbox Solutions:
Get focused:
Pick a day and designate unhurried time for you and your child to visit the grocery store to pick up lunch ingredients and snacks for the week. Involving your child in this way gets them invested and gives you focused time to bond with your child. Children are more likely to eat their lunch and snack when they have actively participated in the planning. Don’t give them free reign. Point out a few snack ideas that you like and let them know what their choices are.
Tip: Horizon Organic has a wonderful selection of snacks and is available in many stores. The bright red and yellow packaging with Happy the smiling cow appeals to children and the wholesome organic ingredients will appeal you.
Get creative:
Let’s be honest. Many children skip over their sandwiches and go right to their snacks. Encourage children to eat their lunch but make sure you also packed a wholesome snack. Lunchtime is a chance for children to rejuvenate and energize their mind and body. Teachers will tell you that children that do not eat during lunchtime are not as prepared for afternoon learning. I like to choose snacks that are nutritious and free of preservatives and artificial colors. My kids love dipping. Horizon Organic Sandwich Crackers, Snack Crackers, and Snack Grahams give me convenient options.
Tip: My favorite kid-pleasing, finger licking, yummy dipping snack:
- Horizon Snack Grahams: Chocolate and/or Honey
- Yulu Aussie Style Yogurt: Vanilla Bean
- One hungry kid ready to dip their Horizon Organic Snack Grahams into their yogurt.
Get Packing:
Have children help you to pack their lunches the night before. Assigning age-appropriate participation fosters a sense of responsibility and independence. When children realize that they are capable, their self-esteem grows. When children are fueled by wholesome foods, nurtured with love, and filled with positive self-esteem they are able to let their best selves show up at school and home. Imagine the possibilities!
Tip: Young children can put snacks into containers or baggies. Even the youngest can simply add a napkin. Resist the urge to over-correct. This is an opportunity for them to do it their way and feel empowered.
