This stress free arts and crafts heart project for kids gives you a chance to upcycle tissue paper you probably have sitting in a closet. Reuse a plastic butter tub or cover to hold glue.
Recycle a shallow box to protect your table and keep kids gluing in one place. Play relaxation music to incorporate stress management into the project. Added bonus: The act of crunching tissue paper is also stress and anger reducing.
You will need:
- Heart shaped construction paper
- Tissue paper
- Glue or Mod Podge
- Scissor
- Paint brush or wooden craft stick
- Plastic cover and/or tub from recycle bin
- Shallow cardboard box wide enough to hold heart and glue container
- Small box to hold tissue paper squares
- Shipping tape
Instructions:
- Cut out a heart shape out of construction paper.
- Prepare box to protect table and keep project in one place. Cut one side off so that kids have easy access. Tape box to table’s edge. Shipping tape works great.
- Cut or rip left over tissue paper into squares. A variety of colors and sizes. 4 X 4’s, 5 X 5’s, and 2 X 2’s. Larger squares work better for younger children.
- Put pile of square tissue paper in a small box or plastic tub.
- Pour Mod Podge or glue into cover. Note: Mod Podge has great consistency, but it dries quickly. Even if your children are old enough to squeeze the glue out, it is more fun to paint with or drizzle glue with a wooden craft stick. (or wooden sticks from popsicles)
- Let the kids paint or drizzle glue on heart.
- Start crunching up the tissue paper squares and stick on heart paper.
And there you have it. A stress free, easy peasy, colorful arts and crafts project.
